Entrepreneur Robert Dold has won the GOP nomination for Illinois' only open congressional seat. The 40-year-old beat out four other Republicans including state Rep. Elizabeth Coulson.

With 99 percent of precincts reporting, Dold had 18,047 votes, or nearly 39 percent. Coulson had 14,292 votes, or nearly 31 percent.

For about a decade, the congressional seat north of Chicago belonged to Republican Mark Kirk. On Tuesday, Kirk received the GOP nomination for a chance at President Barack Obama's old Senate seat.

There are three Democratic candidates for the post, which has been held by a Republican for decades.

With 99 percent of precincts reporting, business consultant Dan Seals had 22,325 or 48 percent of the vote state and state Rep. Julie Hamos had 21,667 votes or about 47 percent.
