Dan Seals' False Social Security Attack

ATTACK: Dan Seals has claimed that Bob wants to privatize Social Security.

FACT: Bob does not support privatization of Social Security, but he knows that we need a bipartisan commitment to solutions to save Social Security for this generation and the next.   Social Security is on a path to insolvency, despite the fact that Dan Seals and national Democrats claim otherwise.  In fact, at a campaign appearance in August, President Obama went so far as to say that “Social Security is not in crisis. We’re going to have to make some modest adjustments in order to strengthen it.”

FACT: The Chicago Tribune noted in its 9.28.10 editorial that Bob does not support privatization and cautioned Seals against using scare tactics on the issue.

FACT: Robert is committed to bi-partisan solutions to save the future of Social Security:

• Keep the Social Security program the same as it is now for all those over 55
• For those under 55, gradually raise the retirement age to reflect the longer life expectancy we now enjoy
• For those under 55, change the programs to allow beneficiaries the choice of putting a small portion of their money into individual accounts that would be managed by the government and could be handed down to their children.

Robert believes strongly that we must stop politicizing this critical issue and instead commit to a serious bi-partisan dialogue about how to save Social Security for today’s beneficiaries and future generations.
