ATTACK: Dan Seals sent out a press release that attacked Bob, claiming he shouldn’t have campaigned on Yom Kippur.
FACT: Bob is Christian, not Jewish, and therefore does not observe Yom Kippur.
FACT: On Yom Kippur, Bob had breakfast with voters in Palatine, met with shop owners in Arlington Heights and attended a Korean fundraiser.
FACT: As the Daily Herald reported on 9.20.10, “nothing in Jewish law or practice prohibits non-Jews from doing anything they would usually do on Yom Kippur or any other Jewish holiday, said Rabbi Michael Balinsky, executive vice president of the Chicago Board of Rabbis, a group representing more than 200 rabbis of all denominations.”
Both candidates in the 10th District race have expressed their commitment to Israel. For Dan Seals to attempt to use the Jewish faith to win political points is insulting to voters in the 10th District.
