Dold Wins Republican Nomination in 10th Convincingly

"This is the right guy." That was the assertion of Judy Dold, the mother of the new Republican candidate for the 10th Congressional District, Robert Dold

With 99 percent of the vote counted, Dold had 19,138 votes (37.9 percent) to 15,738 (31.2 percent) for State Rep. Elizabeth Coulson.

In his gracious victory speech, Dold stressed that he ran a positive campaign that resonated with voters. He thanked his republican opponents for elevating the debate and said he would need their support to help keep the 10th District in Republic hands.

"The 10th District voters tonight had the opportunity to voice their opinion," he told a packed room. "They decided to voice their opinion for a positive campaign, for full independent leadership and that's exactly what we're going to give them."

Dold said there is still much work to do to win in November and emphasized that the creation of jobs is a top priority.

"I think it's important for people to know that there is a brighter tomorrow," Dold said. "And I believe that from the bottom of my heart. For my children and yours, for your grandchildren, we must do better than what we're doing now. We need common sense small business thinking. We need to rein in our spending and we need to make sure that we are doing all we can for the next generation."

Other GOP candidates vote totals included Dick Green of Winnetka at 7,451 (14.7 percent), Arie Friedman of Highland Park at 7,123 (14.1 percent) and Paul Hamann of Lake Forest at 1,057 (2.1 percent).

The good news for Dold began early in the night when returns were displayed over a large TV screen at his campaign headquarters in Winnetka.

The first Dold lead -- a lead he would not relinquish for the rest of the night -- was met with raucous applause from an excited crowd that swelled to more than 300 as the night wore on

Coulson, of Glenview, thanked her supporters at her campaign watch party at Hackney's on Lake in Glenview, clearly stunned by the results.
