Dold Supports Armenian Genocide Resolution

Candidate commends effort to recognize human rights atrocity

Press Release, 3/4/10

Today, 10th District Republican Congressional candidate Robert Dold declared his support for the effort being taken by a key committee of the House of Representatives to advance an Armenian Genocide Resolution.

“I applaud the leaders of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs for advancing this long overdue Resolution,” said Dold.  “As Americans, we must stand with the Armenians and never forget this tragic moment in history.”  Dold continued, “We must never turn a blind eye to atrocities committed against the innocent, and understand that it is in our national interest to ensure that such acts be recognized.”

The House Resolution 252 calls on the President to recognize as part of U.S. foreign policy the atrocities inflicted against the Armenian people by the Ottoman Empire in the early 20th century, affirming those actions as a definitive example of genocide.
