Bob Attends Yom HaShoah Observance at the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center

On Sunday, Bob visited the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center in Skokie, to take part in its Yom HaShoah service.  Yom HaShoah is Holocaust Remembrance Day, and it is observed to, both, commemorate the six million Jews who died in the Holocaust, and mark the liberation and return to life of the survivors.

This extremely moving program included prayer, song, and a candle-lighting ceremony to honor those lives silenced by the Nazis.  The program had a particular focus on the link between the generation of Holocaust survivors, and the generations of their children and grandchildren.   Holocaust survivor and Museum President, Fritzie Fritzshall, offered a touching tribute, and spoke eloquently on the significance of Yom HaShoah.  Reflections from the second generation—the children of Holocaust survivors—were provided by Doris Lazarus, who shared her memories of growing up in the home of Holocaust survivors.  The service concluded with a powerful moment, where the second generation took an oath to accept the legacy of the Holocaust survivors, and pledged to make sure that the world never forgets.

The Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center is dedicated to preserving the legacy of the Holocaust by honoring the memories of those who were lost.  The Museum provides an opportunity to learn, explore, and remember the lessons of the Holocaust, and we want to urge everyone and their families to take the time to visit this important Museum.
